Game over!

Idea:

To win this game you have to beat the computer opponent by collecting as much points as possible from the game board. To gain points you need to pick plus-tiles (the red ones) from the board, while avoiding the minus-tiles (the blue ones). The main idea of the game is that you can only move the selection cursor horizontally, and the computer opponent only vertically (in turn). That is, the tile you select defines the column from which the computer can select its next tile. In the same way, the tile that is selected by the computer defines the row from where you can select your next tile, and so on. The game ends after 60 turns and the player with the biggest score wins the game.

The game board:

The game board consists of total 169 tiles (13 rows x 13 columns). The tiles can be picked by clicking them with the left mouse button. Each tile (excluding brick walls and special "Surprise-tiles") has its own value from -15 to +15 points. The value is added to your score when you pick the tile. If you select an empty “tile”, you lose 25 points. The brick walls restrict the area from which the tiles can be selected, as the selection cursor can't be moved through bricks. When picked, the Surprise-tiles (the ones with question-mark) randomly give one of the following:

* You get or lose a random number of points (0-25)
* An extra brick wall is added on the game board
* The selection cursor is teleported to a random place
* The game board is mixed up

On your turn, the row from which you can select your next tile is
highlighted with green borders.

High Score list:

The game keeps record of the best 5 players who have completed the game. Every player is ranked according to the difference in points compared to the computer's score (by calculating the player's points minus the computer's points). So the greater the difference, the better the rank in the list. Note that you always have to complete the game in order to get to the list. So if you end the game (by clicking "End game"), you can't get to the list, even if you had enough points to get there.

Technical info:

The game's engine is based on JavaScript jQuery-framework and the following free add-ons: jQuery UI (by jQuery UI team), SoundManager 2 (by Scott Schiller) and preloadCssImages 5.0 (by Filament Group). The game can be played with all popular web browsers, although it currently works most fluently with Google Chrome.

About the author:

This game was created by Jussi Laine in 2011. The idea is based on a dos-game called "Number Hunters" (1997). As that game was one of my favourite puzzle games in the 90's, I thought the original idea deserved to be re-created as a browser-based game.
